Students are now being equipped with the requisite tools at the Ednaa Manley College to enable them to practice as artists, making a living from the passion as they do so. It is crucial that this exercise be undertaken by all students as this will be one of the few reality checks they get before they hit the real world.
The other concept of allowing student artists to exhibit in The Cage Gallery is an excellent idea which could have come much earlier but here never-the-less. This reminds me of the time a few third year students in my year, such as Melhanie Spence, Oneik Russel and Andre' Green got the opportunity with much opposition however, to exhibit in a public gallery while still attending college. These are the opportunities students need to get hands on experience into the way of life they should look forward to.
Let me hear your views on this practice as a way of life for young upcoming artists.
If you knew what being an artist in Jamiaca was like before you became one, what would you change if anything?
